Over Two Hundred Intending pilgrims have participated in the 2018 screening exercise to take part in the trip to Israezl and Rome.
Deputy Governor Dr Nkem Okeke flagged off the exercise on behalf of Governor Willie Obiano at the Government House, Awka.
A screening team from Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, Abuja, the Nigerian Immigration, Chairman of the State pilgrims Welfare Board, Professor Steve Ibenta, among others were on ground to ensure hitch free conduct of the exercise.
Intending pilgrims were seen being screened for health status by medical practitioners, as well as field questions arising from the exercise.

Addressing them, Deputy Governor Okeke said that State government is yet to decide on government sponsorship for the exercise.
The Deputy Governor also raised the issue of abscondment, wondered why people still flee the Country in that manner to seek greener pastures abroad which he said is usually detrimental.
In appreciation, he called on the screening team to do a thorough job to ensure that people don’t abscond, thereby portray the State in a bad light.
The South East Director of Special Duties in NCPC, Mr. Sunny Udeh appreciated the efforts of the State government in keeping the exercise alive.
Mr. Udeh said that the Screening team has taken note of salient issues and concerns raised by the Deputy Governor, adding that they are not unmindful of them, assuring that all their efforts will be geared towards ensuring that Anambra State continues to fly its flag high.
Some intending pilgrims who spoke to the ABS, expressed hope that the journey will improve all aspects of their lives, if they eventually scale through the screening.
