The State House of Assembly Committee on Public Procurement and Tenders has charged Ministries, Parastatals and Agencies to follow
procurement law in all their financial transactions to encourage accountability.
The Committee  gave the charge  while over sighting the 2016 capital projects of Ministries of Basic Education, Housing and Urban Development at the State House of Assembly.
The Committee which spoke through its Chairman, Chief Romanus Obi explained that the exercise is part of the statutory responsibilities assigned to States House of Assembly by the constitution.
According to him, the oversight responsibility of the House is not intended to witchhunt anybody but to always checkmate the abuse of due process by the organs of government in public procurement and execution of capital projects in the state.
The Committee after scrutinizing the capital projects of the Ministries that appeared before it asked them to submit relevant
documents that would enable them do a good job in one week time.
It also asked other Ministries and Parastatals that will appear before
it to come with their procurement plans, cash flow, bank statement, certificates of projects executed in the year under review.
In a vote of thanks, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha commended the Committee for living up to its oversight responsibility, assuring that her Ministry would abide by the directive of the Committee.
