Anambra state police command has commenced aggressive manhunt of perpetrators of cult activities including their sponsors.

The state Commissioner of Police Mr. Garba Umar directed the move as a way of curbing recent upsurge in cult activities in the state.

A release signed by the Command’s image maker , Superintendent of Police Mr. Harman Mohammad stated that between the first of November to date, the State Command’s Special Anti Cultism Squad has arrested Fifty Six Suspected cultists from various parts of the State.

It said that so far they have arrested thirteen suspects from Ogidi-Nkpor, axis, ten suspects in Ihiala Local Government Area, seven suspects in Awka and its environs, eight suspects in Nawfia and Enugwu Ukwu, seven suspects in Atani while eleven suspects were arrested in Ayamelum Local Government Area.

According to the statement, out of the fifty-six suspects arrested, thirty eight have confessed and were charged to court, while eighteen others are under investigation.

The release further restated the determination of the Command to ensuring that criminals have no hiding place in the State no matter how highly placed they might be, especially during this period of ember months as the men of the Command would deal decisively with anyone apprehended in accordance with the Law.

The Command further assured Ndi Anambra of its commitments towards providing safety and security in the State, and implored parents and guardians to caution their children to refrain from indulging in cultism and other nefarious activities.
