International Students’ Day celebration is being observed on seventeenth of November every year which is  an international observance of student activism.

The date commemorates the anniversary of the 1939 Nazi storming of the University of Prague after the demonstration against the killing of Jan Opletal and the occupation of Czechoshrakia, the execution of nine
student leaders, over two hundred students sent to concentration camps and the closing of all Czech Universities and colleges.

Njideka Okoye who threw more light on the importance of the day reports that the day was first marked in 1941 in London by the
International Students’ Council in accord with Allies and the tradition has been kept by the successor international Union of Students which has been pressing with National Unions Students in Europe and other groups to make the day an official United Nations observance.

Commenting on the day, the Principal Anglican Girls Secondary School Ogidi, Dr Lizzy Okeke stated that to be a student is a privilege since education is power, noting that in the contemporary society, any one without education is without knowledge and brighter future, urging youths of school age to acquire education before engaging in any venture.

Lady Lizzy commended Governor Obiano for provision of infrastructure to schools in the state for effective teaching and learning resulting to giant strides achieved in the sector.

The Proprietor, Supreme Knowledge Schools, Nkpor, Dr Pat Okeke said that benefits of education cannot be over emphasized as school molds a child both physically, morally, academically, psychologically and other wise to become a better person the society will be proud of and urged students to take their studies serious to attain greater height
in life.

Some students including Victoria Asika, Utonwa Emma-Oko and Chibuike Enendu
said that being educated makes one to have high esteem, siting the computer wizard Emegwali who produced the fastest computer in the world, urging dropouts, to go back to school to acquire knowledge.

For a nursery pupil, Ifunanya  Okeke, she is proud to be  in school.
