Residents of Isuaniocha community in Awka North Local Government Area, have called on the state government to intervene in the communal crisis in the area to avoid loss of lives and property.

The President General of the community, Chief Tony Onyiagulum, who made the call in the community expressed sadness over a recent attack that left six persons injured and properties worth billions of Naira, destroyed.

According to Mr. Onyiagulum, Isuaniocha Communal crisis started in April this year, following the alleged appropriation of the community secondary school land by a contractor in the area, whom he claimed, plotted out the land and sold to the public.

The President General told newsmen, that he has written petitions to all quarters of the state, including the government and the Nigeria Police Force among others, regretting that nothing substantial has been done.

He alleged that the contractor, in the area , had since then engaged in series of threat and confrontations with him as well as sent hoodlums to invade his business premises on Saturday, last week in the late hours of the evening with arms.

According to him, the hoodlums destroyed his two vehicles, properties running into billions of naira.

The PG also alleged that they made away with cash of over four hundred thousand Naira as well as robbed his customers of their belongings.

He pleaded with the state government to come to their aid as according him, the situation may get worse if not handled properly.

An eye witness who spoke to journalists, Mr. Emeka Ezejeugwu, said that the hoodlums totaling about forty armed men, some on vigilante uniforms, opened fire in the premises of the restaurant demanding for the President General, before resorting to vandalization of properties, adding that
some of the workers they beat up were hospitalized.

All efforts to get the reaction of the contractor about the incident, through phone calls and text messages proved abortive as he declined to speak to the ABS.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, said the situation has been brought under control and investigation was ongoing to apprehend the hoodlums.
He urged the community to remain calm and go on with their normal businesses.
