The President, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Anambra State Chapter, Chief Damian-Okeke Ogene has appealed to the town union executives in the state to always work for the collective interests of their communities.

Chief Ogene made the appeal at the unveiling of the “Anambra Community News Magazine”  published by the Anambra State Association of Town Unions in Awka.

Chief Okeke-Ogene said that the magazine is a community development information driven, that will help to inform and educate Ndi Anambra on the happenings in their various towns, communities and localities.

Chief Okeke-Ogene who is also  chairman Asatu Board of Trustees urged community leaders to always work for the overall good of their various communities, adding that the unveiling of the magazine will elicit healthy competitions among various communities in the state and commended the current leadership of ASATU for doing a great job.

In a welcome address, the National President of ASATU, Chief Alex Onukwue said that the union has grown to become the veritable link between the government and communities of the state, thereby engendering strong democratic structure in the state and said that the Willie Obiano administration has embraced ASATU as a formidable partner in building a stronger and better Anambra State.

Chief Onukwue stated that the monthly news magazine will serve as a boost to the overall efforts at taking the programmes and actions of the government directly to the grassroots as well as serve as a source of vital information to the state government in terms of policy formulation and implementation as it will carry accurate news of successes and challenges of governance in the various communities.

The President General Ikem Ivite and Managing Editor of the magazine, Professor Charles Nwadigwe said the content of the magazine is development information, issues bothering communities, giant strides made by the state government and mile stone recorde by previous leaders among others, calling on the PG’s to continue promoting necessary information as every one of them is a correspondent for the magazine, stating that they have achieved a lot through the magazine.

In a good will message, a stakeholder, Chief Ben Ezeabuogu commended Chief Onukwe for the bold step taking in producing the magazine, stating that it will inform others on various activities going on in other communities, calling for its sustainability.
