It was an exhibition of skills and talents by students and other football talents in the state during the lunching of the state’s football season.
The epoch making event which took place at Saint Mary’s High School Ifitedunu, drew students from various schools across the state, the State Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke, other government functionaries, football Stakeholders, teachers and lecturers.
The Football Season which kicked off yesterday will be rounded off on May twenty-seventh 2019.
The sporting competition is also grouped into six categories which are, under thirteen kid’s cup, under seventeen Academia which is Governor’s Cup, The Uni-Soccer which is also Vice Chancellor’s Cup will be played by tertiary institutions in the state, Community Shield- King’s Cup, Market Exchange- trader’s Cup and Security challenge Cup.
According to the Chairman Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Mr. Tony Oli, the strategy for creating the football season is to select those who will represent the state in every competition nationwide.
Mr. Oli who said it was a mandate from Governor Willie Obiano to reposition sports sector in the state lauded the Governor for making the event a reality.
On his part, the Chairman, Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Chief Alex Onukwue, maintained that the state is making tremendous progress in sporting activities and stressed that football plays vital role in nation building.
In a remark, the Director Anambra State Football Association, ANSFA, Mr. Joe Amene, commended the Governor for the vision to identifying hidden talents amongs youths, stating that the football season promises to bring a revolution in sporting activities in the state.
Others at the event were the traditional ruler of Ifitedunu, Igwe Emeka Ilouno, the Chairman Post Primary School Service Commission, Lady Joy Ulasi and the Chief Whip, at the State House of Assembly, Mr. Lawrence Ezeudu, among others,
The event featured presentation of football and display of trophies by the state Deputy governor, Dr Nkem Okeke.
