Governor Willie Obiano has presented the 2019 draft estimates of one hundred and fifty seven, point seven billion naira.

The budget, titled “Budget for Sustainable Economic Growth and Youth Empowerment”, has forty-one point three percent earmarked as recurrent expenditures and fifty-eight point seven percent for capital expenditure.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Barrister Rita Mmaduagwu presided over
the event.

Out of the total proposed budget estimate, road construction is estimated at twenty-two point four billion naira, out of which, one point five billion naira was mapped out for Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency to support ongoing rehabilitation of roads and construction and of rural communities.

Four billion naira was allocated to empower up to ten thousand youths through vocational, agriculture and artisan training programmes as well as the provision of interest free startup capital to commence their businesses.

An additional two billion naira has been ear marked to boost the state Health Insurance Scheme to ensure adequate implementation of the programme.

In Education ,the state government is projecting a total capital expenditure of eleven point nine billion naira.
Rendering account of his stewardship, Governor Obiano stressed that his administration hopes to plan a review of their four year State development plan and finalize the preparation of 2019 to 2021 medium term sector strategies across MDAs, stressing that government will maximize the use of data in planning in the coming year.

While pleading for prompt passage, the Governor added that internally generated revenues for the coming year are projected at three point zero billion naira monthly, urging State citizenry to monitor the budget implementation.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Barrister Mmaduagwu noted that a look at the 2018 budget shows that special attention was given to human and infrastructural development across the State, and promised cooperation of Assembly members to ensure continued development of all sectors of the State economy.

Some stakeholders who spoke to the ABS including the State President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Okeke Ogene and Chief Dan Ogbuefi expressed optimism that the budget will translate to better life for the State citizenry, and commended House members for putting their differences behind them.
