The Management, Staff and students of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, came together within the College Premises, to celebrate the Joyful Nine Lessons and Carols, heralding the birth of Christ.

A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, in which the Christmas story was told in nine brief lessons with one or two choral works after each reading, took place at the College’s auditorium.

Those who attended had the opportunity to sing favorite Christmas carols including Indulci Jubilo, Comfort ye my people by G.F Handel, Sing Lullaby, Angels from the realms of Glory, the popular Hallelujah Chorus by G.F Handel, among others.

The nine lessons were taken by egg heads in the College with the first, second, third, fourth and fifth lessons taken by the Provost, Dr Ifeyinwa Osegbo, Registrar, Mr G.U Okeke, Bursar, Mr P.E Iloakasia, Librarian, Mr C.N Nwogwugwu, and HOD Works, Engineer Onyili Nnamdi.

On the same vein, the sixth, seventh, eighth, and nineth lessons were taken by the  Dean General Education, Dr Ndu Azubuike, Director Professional Diploma in Education, Dr Nneka Nwaka, Director General Studies, Dr Njideka Okeke, as well as the President of the Students Union Government, Dickson Mba, in that order.

In a Sermon, an Anglican Cleric, Reverend Canon Charles Chukwurah shared the essence of Christmas as God’s demonstration of infinite live for mankind. He stressed that God is with everyone who is living according to Divine Principles.

Reverend Canon Chukwurah added that Jesus Christ came for redemption of mankind, calling on those who are yet to recieve Him, to do so with the hope of life in eternity.

In her remarks, the Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Dr. Ifeyinwa Osegbo was full of gratitude to God for keeping her to oversee the first Carol as the Provost of the College. She appreciated Governor Willie Obiano for his efforts in the College, including approval for tarring of internal roads, perimeter fencing of the College, among others. The Provost urged the staff and students to become light and true ambassadors wherever they find themselves.

History of Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols which dates back to 1880  is a service of Christian Worship celebrating the birth of Jesus that is traditionally followed at Christmas.

The story of the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah and the birth of Jesus is told in nine short Bible readings from Genesis, the prophetic books and the Gospels, interspersed with the singing of Christmas Carols, hymns and choir by the Music Department.

Prayers of Thanksgiving and intercession for Nigeria, Anambra and the College, among others featured at the festival.
