Stakeholder in the state have been urged to support Governor Willie Obiano’s drive towards building a healthy and sustainable clean environment.
Speaking to journalists in Awka, the Managing Director of Anambra state signage and Advertisement Agency Chief Jude Emecheta, cautioned against posting of posters, banners , bill boards and other advertisement materials.
Chief Emencheta said the practice is against the law and causes environmental degradation.
He explained that placing such materials at Roundabout, road dividers or electric poles does not only deface the environment but also constitutes serious threat to road safety as they cause dangerous distraction to motorists and other road users.
Chief Emencheta said that the law establishing the Agency made mandatory for any person wishing to place advertisement materials to get approval from the Agency through lay down processes which would include verification and assessment by the Agency to ensure that areas chosen for the materials are conducive without any threat to the environment or structures in the area.
The managing Director regretted that landmark projects executed by Governor Obiano and other public facilities are being defaced with posters and banners by politicians, individuals and groups.
He stated that the Agency opened offices in various Local Government Areas to serve the people better and is presently partnering with Presidents General of Town Unions to collect fees for posters and banners in communities.
Chief Emencheta said Governor Obiano should be giving necessary support in providing enabling environment and infrastructure to up lift the standard of living of the people while attracting necessary investments to strengthen the state economy for wide empowerment opportunities.
Also speaking , an Environmentalist, Mr. Mike Nwadialor said efforts of the State signage and Advertisement Agency are helping to beautify the state to protect its clean image and maintain orderliness.
