The State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps has restated its commitment towards implementing strategic initiatives to further promote road safety across the state.

Speaking in Awka, the new State Sector Commander, Mr. Andrew Kumapayi disclosed that the state recorded six percent decrease in road crashes between December 2018 and January fifteen this year.

According to Mr. Kumapayi , within the period, seventeen road crashes were recorded involving twenty -eight vehicles in which one hundred and twenty eight people were involved .

He explained that seventy five persons sustained injuries in the crashes while two people died, noting that the achievements were due to commitment and hard work of the late Commander Mr. Ajayi and the personnel of the Corps as well as effective collaboration with all stakeholders.

The new Sector Commander said he would consolidate on remarkable achievements already on ground by among other things increasing visibility of the Corps in all parts of the State through expanding public enlightenment programmes, enforcement of traffic rules and regulations, patrol operations, removal of obstructions, traffic control and improved data generation.

He said the Corps would also partner with Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps to maintain special night patrol to check excesses of some drivers, especially articulated vehicle drivers while regular mobile court session would also be sustained to try road traffic offenders.

He applauded the state government for commendable achievements in infrastructural development that assisted the Corps, to record all the success stories so far, assuring that the collaboration would be sustained

On the coming General Elections, he said the Corps would work with other agencies to enforce restriction of movement and ensure hitch free exercise.
