Series of activities lined up to mark the one hundred years of the coming of the Anglican Church to Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area, have ended with a thanksgiving service at the Holy Trinity Parish Igboezunu Aguleri.

The event was well attended by religious leaders and other clergymen from within and outside the State, government functionaries, politicians, sons and daughters of Aguleri both at home and in the diaspora and their friends.

The event was also used to honour and support Aguleri indigenous Priests, inauguration of an ultra modern Centenary Vicarage and conferment of awards of different categories to some people including Governor Willie Obiano and his Wife Dr Mrs Ebelechukwu among others for their contributions to the development of the town, the church and for the promotion of Ecumenism.

The Bishop of Niger West Diocese, Right Reverend Johnson Ekwe, during the event charged Christians to preach the gospel to all people, and as well have unity of purpose in their dealings to win more souls for Christ.

Bishop Ekwe, called on Christians to extend love of Christ to their neighbours and commended Governor Obiano for his people oriented governance.

In a sermon, the Bishop of Eha-Amufu Diocese, Right Reverend Daniel Olinya who enumerated the benefits of the coming of the gospel to Igbo land urged Christians to follow the footsteps of the early missionaries by propagating the word of God to all people.

In an interview, the Anglican Bishop of Afikpo Diocese, Right Reverend Paul Udogu who hails from Aguleri said they gathered to celebrate God’s faithfulness, kindness and freedom, and urged Ndi Aguleri to come together and embrace God as the author and finisher of their faith.

The Vicar of the Holy Trinity Parish Igbezunu Aguleri and Supervising Priest Aguleri Archdeaconry, Reverend Canon Ignatius Obalum prayed for God’s strength and direction on the people while the Chairman Centenary Planning committee, Sir Ken Akwobu thanked God for a successful event, calling on Christians to join hands in taking the Gospel to all nooks and crannies.

The event featured thanksgiving by five newly ordained indigenous priests, unveiling of a modern classroom block of Reverend Jonas Nnebo Memorial Secondary school, among others.
