INEC will today commence collation of election results for the Presidential election.
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who announced this yesterday also denied reports that the commission was planning to cancel or declared as inconclusive, the Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections in the Federal Capital Territory.
He also told newsmen at the National Collation Centre located at the International Conference Centre (ICC) Abuja, that complete results of the elections in Ekiti State are ready and that the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) is on his way to Abuja to formally submit the results for declaration.
Professor Yakubu equally confirmed the death of one of the commission’s female ad-hoc staff in Rivers State.
According to him, the staff, Amakiri Ibisaki, was hit by a stray bullet. He said the commission condemned the killing and will provide the necessary report to security agencies for investigation.
The Chairman however did not state whether Ms Ibisaki was a corps member as the bulk of INEC’s election duties staff is made up of NYSC Corps members.
He said that the incident happened in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State after sporadic shootings which led to stray bullet killing the corp member and leaving some others injured.
Professor Yakubu also said that one of its officer in Imo State has been detained with the Nigeria Police for alleged alteration of elections results.
He said that the commission would not spare anyone involved in any election malpractice and would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
