From all indications, Governor Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano (Akpokuedike Global) is a trailblazer, making a path for others to follow. He has not only shown, in five years, that he is a good leader but a jinx breaker and an excellent and exceptional performer. Since he was sworn-in on March 17, 2014, Akpokuike has manifested that the harder you work for something, the greater you feel when you achieve it.
In Anambra State, beacons are visible and the performance indicators announce that hope is finally here. The picturesque new Awka with dazzling motorways and gleaming flyovers announce the birth of hope. The transformation of the once notorious Upper Iweka from a gangsters’ paradise to a garden of peace reminds us that insecurity has ceased to be the endless concern of Anambra State. Thus, the state is one of the safest in Nigeria. Since the advent of the present administration, there has not been any major incidence of armed robbery and kidnapping. This is unprecedented in Nigeria.
Moreover, the influx of investors leading to the attraction of about five billion dollar-investments so far into the state shows that Obiano has been making bold efforts to fulfill his Vision Statement. Same goes for the increase in and prompt payment of workers’ salaries in a most austere time.
The present state government has also recently introduced a health insurance scheme in order to enhance the living standards of the citizenry. Obiano has equally distributed hundreds of ambulances to take care of emergency cases. Again, for the first time in the country, a government started a people- oriented program known as “Community Choose Your Project Initiative.”
With this development, no community has been denied direct democracy dividends. It is equally a truism that it is only the present government in Anambra state, under the watch of Governor Willie Obiano, that thought it wise to introduce an economic stimulus package to ameliorate the harsh conditions imposed on Nigerians by the apparently receding economic recession in the country.
When most of his brother governors are grossly unable to meet their financial obligations to their workers and pensioners as well as business partners, Governor Obiano is on top of the situation. Instead of resorting to stinginess, the Obiano government prudently pumped money into the Anambra economy and boosted it to the delight of the citizenry.
Currently, teachers in hard to reach areas and those teaching special subjects receive special incentives as a motivation strategy. Hawkers, wheelbarrow pushers and many other less privileged persons are not levied at all by the Anambra state government while levies on commercial Okada and Keke operators have been drastically reduced.
Today, agriculture has been impressively rejuvenated in the state. For instance, the state’s rice production has significantly surpassed her internal needs and consumption level largely because of the palpable peace and security as well as encouragements given to farmers by the present state government.
While massive construction of roads and bridges are persisting in the state, the Obiano administration is vigorously embarking on “Light up Anambra Campaign” hence most of our major roads and streets across the state are illuminated at night for security and aesthetic purposes. This has symbolically lent credence to the state’s sobriquet as the light of the nation.
Governor Obiano is one of the first to digitize the state media outfit. He built and equipped the Anambra Broadcasting Service with state-of-the-art modern radio and television studio complexes. Today, you can get ABS in any part of the world. The Airport mega City project at Umueri, which is a PPP project, is advancing speedily, while Governor Obiano does not toy with the sanitation of our cities and towns.
For all these rare and outstanding achievements of the Obiano administration in five years, Governor Willie Obiano and his wife, Osodieme, have attracted many high profile awards and accolades from many reputable organizations. Bravo, your Excellency.
