Governor Willie Obiano has directed relevant authorities in the State to commence the immediate enforcement of ban on street trading across the State.

The Governor gave the directive when he visited victims currently receiving treatment at Toronto Hospital Onitsha, following last week’s accident at the Upper-Iweka, caused by a tanker laden with
kerosene which lost control and rammed into street traders in the area, causing deaths and injuries.

Governor Obiano, who said that street traders are prone to be victims of accidents on major roads and high ways, was informed during the visit that the accident claimed ten lives and seriously injured seven others.

The Governor used the opportunity to urge Ndi Anambra to always insure their property.

He also informed them about the State Health Insurance Scheme where a monthly premium of one thousand naira is paid to access Medicare.

The Governor disclosed that an investigation will be launched to ascertain the remote cause of the accident and commended the medical personnel at the hospital for their prompt attention to the victims.
