Some communities in Aguata, Idemili South, Nnewi North, and Anambra East local government areas have failed the Open Defecation Free, ODF cerfication exercise conducted in the areas.

The certification exercise organized by the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency RUWASSA in collaboration with UNICEF was held in Awka and lasted for a period of ten days.

Speaking on the objectives of the exercise, Mrs Oluchi Nwankwo the Sanitation Officer of RUWASSA noted that the essence was to successfully certify those communities that claim to be Open Defecation Free.

She also noted that the exercise was aimed at strengthening the capacity of twenty-five Sustainable Development Goals members on the revised Open Defecation Free certification protocol.

Also speaking, Mr Clement Chigbo who inspected Oba, in Idemili North Council Area, noted that most communities had good toilets but the major problem was lack of hand washing facilities.

On his part, Mr Felix Ude who inspected Idemili South observed that some communities like Dununegbo Nnobi were ODF, but regretted that Ubili Nnokwa was way behind in attaining ODF status.
