The Anambra state Police Command says it has under her custody a total of one hundred and fifty one suspected cultists, arrested from across the state in the last two weeks.

According to a press statement signed by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Haruna Mohammed, the Command Special Anti Cultism Unit, Special Anti Robbery Squad SARS and Divisional Police had carried out the raids, where they also recovered heavy weapons, and substance suspected to be Indian hemp.

The statement explained that a breakdown of the raids shows that sixteen suspected cultists were arrested at Okija , twelve at Nanka, eleven at Nkwelle and nine suspects were arrested at Ogidi.

It said further break down shows that eight suspects were arrested at Awka, fourteen at Ajali /Oko axis, and eighteen at Enugwu Ukwu /Nimo/Nise axis while twelve suspects were arrested at Fegge and Awada, thirteen at Inland town Onitsha and seventy seven and four suspects were arrested at Achalla and Urum respectively.

The statement said the Police team arrested three suspects at Ogbunike, fifteen at Amawbia and nine at Ukwulu and Ukpo axis.

It added that during the raids, three machetes, four axes, two berrets and, some quantities of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered .

Meanwhile, out of the one hundred and fifty- one suspects arrested so far, forty have confessed to the crime and charged to Court.

Sixty two suspects were screened and released, twenty suspects are under aged and placed under supervision while twenty nine others are undergoing investigation.

The Command implores the Public to report any suspicious persons or movements to the nearest Police Station or call emergency number 0-7-0-3-9-1-9-4-3-3-2 for prompt response.
