The seventh Federal Government IFAD-VCDP supervision mission team in Anambra state has completed its two day working visit with a charge on farmers and processors to ensure environmental friendliness.

The leader of the team, Mrs. Nadine Gbossa gave the charge during a wrap-up session.

The team had earlier embarked on field tour of Omor and Ifite-Ogwari communities in Ayamelum Local Government Area, Umueze-Anam cassava processing group, in Anambra West Local Government Area as well as Ufuma Rice Production Group and Ndikelionwu Cassava Processing Youth Group in Orumba North Local Government Area.

Mrs. Gbossa who described their visit to Anambra State as an eye opener said after interacting with youths and women farmers and entrepreneurs it became clear that that Federal Government IFAD-VCDP has greatly achieved its aims and objectives.

A consultant to IFAD on Gender and Nutrition, Lady Adeline Muheebwa, who described the mission as rewarding, applauded international Institute for Tropical Agriculture Ibadan and African Rice for building the farmer’s capacity.

Another consultant on Climate Change, Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Williams, called for the elimination of plastic waste and adoption of climate smart agriculture and green vegetation.

The State Programme Co-ordinator, Federal Government IFAD VCDP, Mr. Nnamdi Agwuncha listed low off taking of cassava roots, flooding, inadequate developed lands, mechanization equipment and machines as some of their major challenges.

Earlier during report presentation by relevant agencies, the State Manager of Nigeria Agricultural Insurance Cooperation, Mr. Andrew Uzoma called on Federal Government IFAD VCDP to subsidize the insurance of cassava in the state as applicable to rice to assist farmers in case of any natural hazard.
