Last week people from all walks of life, converged at Immanuel Anglican Church Onitsha, for the dedication of the Church building performed by the Bishop on the Niger Right Reverend Owen Nwokolo.

The event tagged “Dedication of prestigious sanctuary”, attracted the traditional ruler of Onitsha Obi Alfred Achebe, members of Agbalanze and Otu odu society of Onitsha, political stalwarts, among others.


The Bishop had earlier on arrival blessed various facilities of worship in the Church.


In his sermon Right Reverend Nwokolo, maintained that God’s heart which is filled with love, compassion and Mercy is ever ready to receive those who come to him with open hearts.


He urged the congregation to walk with God all through their lives to receive His abundant blessings.


The Bishop commended the Onitsha Anglican Community for the edifice which he described as a befitting temple of God and noted that the coming of early missionaries to Onitsha brought great blessings.


The Chancellor, Diocese on the Niger, Mr Nnamdi Ibegbu SAN, disclosed that the foundation stone of Immanuel Anglican Church was initially laid in 1957, while the foundation stone for the new Church was laid in 2006 , by the then Bishop on the Niger Right ReverendĀ Ken Sandy Okeke


The Chairman Building and Dedication committee Sir Chike Onyejekwe, had earlier in an address commended the commitment of many Onitsha indigenes who have contributed towards the project as well as the building committee which led to the completion of the project.


Speaking to the ABS later in an interview, the traditional ruler of Onitsha, Obi Achebe who expressed joy that Onitsha has now a twenty-first century Church edifice, called for continuous appreciation of God’s benevolence to the town.



The Member representing Onitsha North Constituency One in the State House of Assembly Mr Chugbo Enwezor, described the day as great.


The initiator of the project and Archdeacon Onitsha South Archdeaconry Venerable Josiah Ofoegbu, said he was overwhelmed at the development adding that it was not easy when he started the project while the present Vicar who completed the project, and the ArchdeaconĀ Inland Town Archdeaconry Venerable Joseph Nweke, enumerated series of Priests that served in the Church, and commended them for their contributions to the success story.
