The statewide ward mock congress of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has been described as a litmus review of the party’s grassroots strength in preparation for future elections
Some stalwarts of the party made this known while addressing their ward members during one of the mock congresses held at Ward One, Amawbia.
The Mock Congresses which were held across all the APGA wards in Anambra State, are a prelude to the local government and state congresses as well as the national conventions of the party scheduled for May this year, and also provided opportunity for assessment of the party’s leadership at the ward levels.
The State Head of Service, Barrister Harry Uduh, who was present at the Ward One, Amawbia, Mock Congress, noted that the congress was an important process in the strengthening the party’s grassroots presence, and stressed the need for the whole process be transparent and responsive to the demands of the party.
Also at the same ward was the Principal Secretary to Governor Willie Obiano, Sir Willy Nwokoye, who reminded the ward members that while the congress was significant in building grassroots internal democracy, it would also help in re-branding APGA to stand a successful test in future elections.
The APGA Secretary in Awka South, Mr. Ifeanyi Morgonu, who was at the ward to monitor the process, said the peaceful congresses in all the wards in the council, points to harmony in the Party and pleaded with party members who are genuinely aggrieved to join hands to chart the best way forward for the party
The ward congress at Ward One, Amawbia, just like in other wards was used to renew the mandate of some members of the Ward Executive who satisfied the party’s criteria while those that the did not were replaced through a unanimous vote.
