Governor Willie Obiano has presented certificates of recognition to the Traditional Rulers of Awkuzu in Oyi local government area and Nimo in Njikoka local government Area.
While the Traditional Ruler of Nimo is Igwe Maxi Oliobi, the Traditional Ruler of Awkuzu is Igwe Charles Anikweze.
The Traditional Rulers were accompanied to the ceremony by members of their communities.
Presenting the certificates, Governor Obiano charged them to use their new elevation to institute peace in their communities, reminding them that they are the custodians of culture and tradition.
While asking them to carry everyone along including the elders, Governor Obiano who used the opportunity to task traditional rulers to always monitor happenings in their communities, asked them to pay special attention to the activities of their youths.
In his speech, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Greg Obi applauded the Governor for working closely with the traditional institution which according to him has enthroned social cohesion among communities and advised them against engaging in acts that may compel the government to withdraw the certificates.
Also speaking, the Traditional Rulers of Nteje and Abagana communities, Igwe Roland Odegbo and Igwe Mbamalu Okeke respectively reminded the traditional rulers that their emergence is a call to duty asking them to help the Governor to develop the state.
Responding, the new traditional rulers, pledged to do their best to uplift their different communities.
In their various remarks, the Member representing Njikoka Two Constituency, Sir Pete Ibida, Special Adviser to the Governor on Town Union and Chieftaincy Matters, Mrs. Vera Okonkwo and Archbishop Maxwell Anikwenwa stressed the importance of lasting peace in all the communities in the state describing it as the bedrock of community sustainable development.
The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C-Don Adinuba and his Transport counterpart, Mr. Uchenna Okafor, among others graced the occasion while masquerade and cultural performances kept the audience entertained.
