The people of Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government Area is seeking Federal Government’s intervention on the three devastating gully erosion sites in the community.
The erosion sites at Awo Isiowu, Oli Oba and Civic Center areas of the community have rendered families around the area homeless while farms in the area have been cut off.
The Traditional Ruler of the community, Igwe Dr Dan Udorji attributed the cause of the erosion to faulty channeling of drainages during the construction of Onitsha-Owerri road and heavy deforestation activities in the area.
He appealed to the Federal Government to quickly intervene as the challenge is enormous.
Other community leaders also lent their voices to the plea.
