The State Government has reclaimed the portion of land at the Amawbia round about formerly occupied illegally by street traders.
The Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, Venerable Amaechi Okwuosa made this known while inspecting the demolition of the shops affected by the fire incident caused by a fallen tanker loaded with Premium Motor Spirit ,PMS, early his year.
When the ABS arrived the scene, men of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, were seen evacuating debris generated from the demolition exercise.
Inspecting work on the site, Venerable Okwuosa said that the move was in line with the mandate given to his agency to ensure that Awka capital city has good aesthetics that will be compared to developed cities like Dubai.
He regretted that it took the former occupants’ time to quit despite several letters directing them to vacate which according to him fell on deaf ears until the inferno forced them out.
He assured that plans were on to relocate those affected to a better place as long as they are willing to move.
