The governor of Anambra state, Chief Willie Obiano will continue to support and invest in grassroots sports development in Anambra state says Chief Tony Oli, Chairman of Anambra State Sports Development Commission.
Chief Oli was speaking at the draws to select the semi- finalists of the Ananmbra U-13 and U- 17 Football Academicals. He announced that in addition to the support the state will give to the schools of the winners, winners of the U-17 Academicals will win a cash prize of One Million Naira while winners of the U-13 will win a cash prize of Five Hundred Thousand Naira.
In his address, the Governor, Chief Willie Obiano who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu told the audience that sports is a serious business hence the reason why his administration has taken a different part in sports development in the state. This informed the creation of Anambra Sports Development Commission backed by relevant laws.
Governor Obiano praised Chief Oli and his team for the feat they have recorded within a short time since the creation of the Commission. He praised in particular the monthly Anambra Walk 4 Life exercise saying that it has gone a long way to promote active and healthy lifestyles among Ndi Anambra. He encouraged the Commission to also create competitions for females.
Continuing, Governor Obiano charged Ndi Anambra to support government’s efforts by adopting and supporting local primary and secondary schools. He thanked Fidelity Bank Plc for sponsoring the two tournaments and encouraged other brands to support sports development in Anambra State.
In the first Semi-finals U-13 match, Central School Ekwulobia will play Ezechima Primary, Onitsha at St. Mary’s High School, Ifite-Dunu on the 17th of May, 2019 by 10am, while for the second Semi-finals, Central School Ukpor will play Eri Prinary School, Aguleri at Otuocha Township Stadium on the 17th of May, 2019 by 10am.
For the U-17 draws, Bubbendorf Memorial Grammar School, Adazi will play Metropolitan College, Onitsha at Otuocha Township Stadium, on the 17th of May 2019. Time is 3pm.
The second Semi-finals is between Community Secondary School, Uga and
Nnamdi Azikiwe Secondary School, Abagana. Venue is Nnewi High School, Nnewi on the 17th of May 2019 by 3pm.
The draws held at the SSG’s Conference hall, Government House, Awka.
