State government has urged Traditional Rulers in the State to monitor the activities of youths in their Communities.

Governor Willie Obiano was speaking while presenting certificate of recognition to the Traditional Ruler-Elect for Ihiala, Igwe Thomas Obidiegwu.

The presentation was made at the Governor’s lodge, Amawbi

The event was attended by notable traditional Rulers in the State, led by the Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers’ Council, Obi Alfred Achebe of Onitsha.

Governor Obiano who lamented the ravaging effects of cult activities in communities across the Country, urging traditional rulers to introduce programs to meaningfully engage the youths.

Governor Obiano congratulated the new Traditional ruler, asking him to use his new position to bring the people of Ihiala together, and shun acts capable of creating divisive tendencies.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Greg Obi traced the history of the years of chieftaincy tussle in Ihiala which he said led Governor Obiano into setting up a panel of enquiry Presided over by erstwhile Anambra SSG, Chief Paul Odenigbo and some Traditional Rulers, among others.

Commissioner Obi while stressing that Ihiala Chieftaincy remains one of the oldest Traditional Institutions dating back seven hundred years, pointed out that written and oral submissions by members of the Community have been gathered out of which Government report was drawn, commending Governor Obiano for his result oriented leadership style.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Alfred Achebe, stressed that only one person can be the Traditional Ruler of a community at a time, reminding him that Ihiala belongs to him just like he belongs to Ihiala, as such he should carry everyone along, asking Ihiala Community members to uphold the government report for posterity sake.

Responding, the Traditional Ruler of Ihiala, Igwe Thomas Obidiegwu expressed joy and gratitude to God, his Community members and the State government, promising to unite his Community, working with government and other stakeholders.

Speaking to the ABS, a stakeholder in Ihiala and Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. C-Don Adinuba, member representing Ihiala Constituencies One and Two, Mr. Chidi Udemmadu, and Dr Paschal Agbodike, respectively, congratulated the new Traditional Ruler, asuring that they will stand behind him to ensure his success in accordance with State laws.
