Central School Ekwulobia has emerged winners of the Under-thirteen Academical Championship organized by the Anambra State Government for over one thousand primary schools across state.

The team lifted the trophy after beating Eri Primary school, Aguleri three goals to one at St Mary’s High School football pitch Ifitedunu.

The final match which ended three goals to one in favor of Ekwulobia Central school recorded over five hundred persons in attendance who came from across the state to watch the game.

Speaking shortly after the match, the member representing Ihiala Two Constituency in the State House of Assembly and Chairman House Committee on Sports, Dr Paschal Agbodike while congratulating the winners expressed satisfaction with the performance of the teams which he described as incredible.

He further commended the State Government for reviving sports in the State through the Anambra State Sports Development Commission.

On his part, a member, Anambra Broadcasting Service Board of Directors and Traditional Ruler of Nteje, Oyi Council Area, Igwe Roland Odegbo who viewed the competition as a great opportunity to discover young talents, stated that Anambra State will in no time assume its pride of place in sporting activities in the country.

Igwe Odegbo further called on affluent Ndi Anambra to invest in sports to help engage the youths, encourage healthy lifestyle and also to promote economic growth and development.

Sunday Igwebike and Onyedika Okeke of Central School Ekwulobia who both scored the goals that led to their victory, thanked the state government for organizing the tournament and expressed hope that such competition would offer them the opportunity to exhibit their talents in football.

Other dignitaries that graced the event include the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, Chief Uche Nworah, other top government functionaries and captains of industry.

The kick off of the match was performed by the Commissioner for Basic Education, Professor Kate Omenugha, acompanied by the Chairman, Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Mr. Tony Oli.
