Five Anambra Youths that took part in the 2018 Academical Championship have been invited to the National Camp by the Nigeria Football Federation.

The Chairman Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Mr. Tony Oli, disclosed this at Ifitedunu during the final match of the 2018/2019 under seventeen Academical Championship, organized by Anambra State Government.

Mr. Oli while appreciating the state government, Fidelity bank, and others who partnered them in making the tournament a success, expressed hope that more talented Anambra youths through grassroot sports development will be exposed to greater opportunities, sports wise.

He assured of more commitment towards making the next season of the academicals competition better.

Earlier while handing the trophy to the winners, Gov Willie Obiano, through the Deputy Governor, Dr Nkem Okeke, commended the Anambra State Sports Development Commission for a job well-done, adding that the state government will continue to invest in youth development through sports. He stressed that sports contribute immensely towards a healthy living, peace and harmonious coexistence.

The Governor further appreciated Fidelity Bank for their partnership, urging other corporate bodies and affluent Ndi Anambra to engage the youths positively in order to secure a brighter future for the state.

In a remark, the Fidelity Bank Managing Director Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, noted that sports is a vital element in youth development and assured of their continuous partnership with the state government.

Others who spoke during the event, including the House Member representing Aguata One Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Honorable Ikechukwu Umenwa, the Transition Chairman Onitsha North Local Government Area, Mr. Patrick Mba, the Principal of Community Secondary School Uga, Comrade Emmanuel Ibeneme, among others expressed satisfaction with the present state of sports in Anambra State, assuring of their continuous support to grassroot sports development in the state.

In jubilation as the winner of the competition, some players from Community Secondary School Uga team, including the top goal scorer of the tournament, Chikamso Sibudu, with seven goals, and Chibike Nsiegbunam, who also scored the winning goal against Metropolitan College Onitsha, thanked the Anambra State government for giving them such great opportunity.

Community secondary school Uga, lifted the trophy, winning a grand prize of one million naira, while Metropolitan College Onitsha, and Bubendoff Memorial Grammar School, Adazi-Nnukwu were the first and second runners up respectively.
