Some Residents of Awka have joined the Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps to mark the 2019 World Bicycle Day.

Correspondent Chibuzor Okoye monitored the exercise which terminated at the premises of the Anambra Broadcasting Service Awka.

The World Bicycle Day is celebrated on the Third of June every year by the United Nations in collaboration with fifty six other member countries.

It was meant to encourage member states to adopt best practices and means of strengthening physical and mental health as well as promote cycling.

Baring his mind on the significance of the day, the Anambra State Sector Commander of the, Federal Roads Safety Corpse, Corps Commander Andrew Kumapayi represented by the Deputy Corps Commander Operations of the Command, Mr. Anthony Okore, said that the day was adopted by the United Nations to sensitize people on the need to use bicycle as a means of transportation, as it is cheap and environmental friendly, calling on residents of the state to key into cycling to reduce emission of carbon dioxide.

Mr. Patrick Ama from Awka South Council Area who participated in the exercise said that cycling is very healthy and encouraged people to embrace cycling a means of transportation.
