Awba-Ofemmili and Ugbene communities in Awka North Council Area have received thirty percent money for the first phase of their proposed Community Development Projects to be executed by the Anambra State Community and Social Development Agency.

In the same vein, Ebenebe community also in the council area, received fifty percent for the same first phase of their own Community Development Project.

The Community and Social Development Project is a World bank-assisted program that aims at developing the hinterlands and uplifting the living standard of the poorest of the poor in the communities.

As contained in their separate approved Community Development Plans, CDPs, Awba-Ofemmili proposed the construction of road to their major farm land and the construction of teacher’s and Corper’s Lodge, while Ugbene proposed the construction of road to their major farm as well as
the construction of twelve lockup shops at the Afor market Ugbene.

Ebenebe community asked for sinking of borehole at their Community Secondary School as well as its perimeter fencing.

In his speech the General Manager of the Agency, Mr. Chudi Mojekwu said the Agency will first assist Awba-Ofemmili in building the Teacher’s and Corper’s Lodge, assist Ugbene in erecting the twelve lockup shops at the Afor market, and Ebenebe in drilling the borehole facility at the school noting that other projects will be handled on completion of the first phase.

Mr. Muojekwu reemphasized the need for the communities to take the projects seriously, and called for synergy between the town unions and special committees that would handle the projects.

Contributing, the Operations Manager of the Agency, Mrs. Augustina Nwizugbo, advised the communities to judiciously manage the funds given them, for the actualization of the primary objective of the intervention.

In their various responses, the Traditional Ruler of Ebenebe community, Igwe Christopher Nnaegbuna, representative of Awba-Ofemmili Traditional Ruler, Chief Bernard Nwanelo, and the representative of Ugbene President General, Chief Boniface Nnaegbuna thanked Governor Willie Obiano for the intervention and promised to accord the Agency and committees handling the projects all necessary support for their timely completion.
