As part of the celebration to mark the day of the African child, Anambra state UNICEF Desk Officer, Mrs. Franca Maduike says a lot of activities have been lined up to celebrate the Day which was established in accordance with article thirty-two and thirty-three of the African Chater on the rights and welfare of children .

According to the state UNICEF desk Officer, UNICEF through its humanitarian assistance, works with partners to promote and protect children’s rights while ensuring that their rights are at the forefront of all its actions in all situations, adding that the day serves to commemorate those children who participated in the Soweto uprising in 1976.

Mrs. Maduike who highlighted on this year’s theme “Humanitarian action in African, children’s right first” said the celebration comes at a critical moment for child right in the country and for the children’s right globally.

A cross section of children who spoke to the ABS on their expectations for the day including Princess Gold Kalu, Glory Chukwuka and Prince Chukwuemeka Kalu said they want Anambra state Ministry of Women Affairs to be at the forefront of promoting good health and well being of children in the state, calling for joint efforts to bring a turnaround in the overall development of children.
