WRITTEN BY MIKE UDAH

An often-quoted book in the Bible is Ecclesiastes. It derives its popularity in part from its unassailable reference to “time”. For this portion of the Holy Book, there is “time for everything” under the sun. Everything that happens in this world happens at the time God chooses.

The truth in this view-point comes to the fore tomorrow when it will be time for the Diocese of Niger-West, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) to hold the third session of its third synod at the Immanuel Anglican Church, Umueri with the theme “The Strategy of High Praises to God”.

This annual gathering of the Anglican faithful will surely be remarkable and result-oriented. The worship of the Almighty God cannot be complete without praising Him. That is why the Lord’s Prayer begins on a worship and praise note: “Our father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name; Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven…..’’.As a matter of fact, Praise is the will of God, and heaven overflows with it.

The Diocese of Niger-West has every reason to praise God. He has kept them alive. The Almighty has been preserving and protecting Ndi Niger-West from the vagaries of contemporary Nigeria and World.

Among other things, God has enabled them to put in place, within the relatively short period of the existence of the Diocese, Archbishop Patterson Seminary, Igbariam; Virgin Mary Convent, Umueri; Diocesan Plaza, Umueri; He Reigns Water and Diocesan Hospital, Enugu-Otu Aguleri among others. There are also many structures under construction.

If the theme of the synod is apt, then the venue is even more so. For the Anglican faithful in Omambala area, visiting Immanuel Anglican Church, Umueri will be a home-coming, imbued with every sense of nostalgia and history. This is simply because the first seed of Anglicanism in what we today know as Anambra East, Anambra West, Oyi and Ayamelum Local Government Areas (otherwise referred to as Omambala area), was planted in the Church in 1904.

This is through the effort of Mr. Charles Omatam Adintu, an illustrious son of Umuatuolu Village, Umueri. It was from this church that the gospel of the Church Missionary Society (CMS) spread to Aguleri, Nando, Awkuzu, Umunya, Nteje, Igbariam and Ayamelum Local Governments.

Highlights of this year’s synod, which will begin tomorrow, Thursday June 27 and end on Sunday, June 30, 2019 include the reading and launching of the Bishop’s Presidential Address on Saturday 29th June at 11.00am, followed by its launching and the Synod Thanksgiving service. Launching of Diocesan development project funds is slated for Sunday, June 30, 2019 by 10am.

Our Lord Bishop, Right Reverend Johnson Nwaohalama Ekwe, Ph.D, Bishop of  the Diocese of Niger-West; the traditional ruler of Umueri, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Sir Benneth Izuchukwu Emeka, JP, Okebo the second of Umueri; the Synod Secretary, Venerable Theophilus Edo; the Parish Priest of Immanuel Anglican Church, Canon Sylvanus Onyeachulam and indeed all the clergy and faithful from Diocese of Niger-West, invite all and sundry to join the diocese in praising the Sumum Bonum, the Prime Mover, Uncaused Cause and the Unmoved Mover; the Almighty God from tomorrow through Sunday, June 30.

Your support for effective propagation of the gospel of Jesus Christ in Anambra East will be highly appreciated. God bless you continually as you honour our invitation. Diocese of Niger –West… The Lord Reigneth!

To God be the glory.
