National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA has urged youths to eschew
all forms of indulgence in drug abuse and related activities.

The agency made the call during a sensitization programme in Onitsha.

The Area Commander of the Agency at Fegge, Mrs Amaka Ekwealor, said
the event was aimed at fighting and creating awareness, for the youths
and school children on the implications of drug abuse.

She mentioned substances such as marijuana, cocaine, tramadol, codeine
as some of the drugs with harmful effects that could ruin one’s career
when abused.

She explained that the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency had more
difficult tasks, which include educating, rehabilitating and
reinstating those affected by drug abuse.

Mrs Ekwealor urged those contemplating to engage in such activities to
have a rethink, saying that the programme was packaged to re-direct
the minds and energies of such people.

She called on government to assist the agency financially to enable it
carry out more campaigns in combating the unwholesome practice.

Earlier, the Area Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement
Agency Marine Division, Mr Maurice Ogbonna, stressed that the
consequences of drug abuse is not being suffered by persons involved
alone but also his Family Members, State and the Nation.

Mrs Felicia Nze, a teacher at Modebe Primary School, one of the
schools that participated in the programme, thanked the organizers and
called for its sustenance for enhanced enlightenment.
