There are many Customs and Traditions that form part of the cultural identity of Ndigbo . And to protect and promote the rich cultural heritage of Ndigbo many communities celebrate one festival or another.


In this special report correspondent Chibuzor Obidike who attended the just concluded Nwafor festival in Ogidi and Ogbunike Communities respectively takes an insight on the cultural fiesta.
Nwafor Festival, is celebrated amongst the people of Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area and Ogbunike Community in Oyi Local Government Area.
Nwafor Festival marks the end of the farming season.
In Ogbunike, the plan for the celebration of this year’s festival, was for the community to converge on one place on the last day of the festival and celebrate it in grand style, but was marred by heavy downpour of last Sunday.
As explained by some cultural proponents, the rain was uncommon as it is unusual to witness such in the grand finale of Nwafor festival.
Explaining the age-long ceremony, an elderly man from Umuori Ogbunike, Chief Anene, said the festival unifies the people, noting that the culture and tradition of the people are paramount in development and must be guarded jealously.
Telling more about the festival, the Chairman, Bring Back Our Culture of Nwafor 2019, Mr Franklin Okonkwo, explained that few days to the festival, there were ceremonial performance of masquerades with traditional dance around the community, to set the tone for the main event.
He noted that the highpoint is usually on Sunday when the people gather at the community squares.
ABS news crew witnessed different forms of carnivals staged at different parts of the two communities as each people were seen dancing to melodious tunes coming from Live bands , thanking God for his blessings and protection over the years.
It is also a moment for them to pray for more blessings.
