Communities in Idemili North Local Government Area are now to benefit
from the World Bank-assisted Community and Social Development Project
following the enactment of Local Government Review Committee bye-law
by the Council.
The General Manager, Anambra state Community and Social Development
Agency, Mr. Chudi Mojekwu announced this during a one-day
sensitization meeting of traditional rulers, Presidents General, Woman
and Youth Leaders of all the communities in Idemili North Local
Government Area, held at the council’s headquarters in Ogidi.
Ebele Ezeh reports that Mr. Mojekwu disclosed that out of the twelve local government areas
presently benefiting from the project, sixty-five communities have
submitted their letter of interest to benefit.
He also said they have received forty Community Development Plans,
CDP, including thirty- three on-going micro projects, with sixteen of
them completed.
He urged them to go back to their communities, discuss and come up
with a letter of interest to benefit from the project.
The Transition Committee chairman, Idemili North local government
area, Barrister Rapheal Nnabuife, represented by the Head, Local
Government Administration, Mrs. Oge Chudi-Ezelum urged them to listen
attentively as the project will catalyze the development of
their communities.
Taking participants on “CDP CYCLE”, the Operations Manager, Anambra
state Community and Social Development Agency, Mrs. Uche Nwizugbo
urged them to always protect and take full ownership of the projects
on completion for sustainability.
The chairman, Idemili North Traditional Rulers Council, Igwe Chidubem
Iweka of Obosi, in his speech, appealed for greater attention to be paid
to the youths.
Igwe Iweka also stressed the importance of including animal husbandry,
to curb youth restiveness.
For the President General, Abatete Development Organization, ADO, Sir
Moses Chukwuka all communities in Idemili North local government area
should avoid acts capable of
marring what he described as a well intended and designed poorest of
the poor project.
Idemili North Youth Leader, Honourable Christ Onyekwelu and
Nkpor community Woman leader, Mrs. Amaka Ejikeme, who listed their
areas of interest to include construction of skills acquisition
centers, potable water, roads, erosion among others assured that they will provide the necessary security.
