Governor Willie Obiano has received in audience, members of the
Nigeria Police Games who came to brief him on the progress made on
modalities of the forthcoming twelfth Biennial Nigeria Police Games to
be hosted in Anambra State later this year.
Government House Correspondent, Ejike Abana reports that the group was
led by the Commissioner of Police in charge of Sports, Mr. Aliyu
Abubakar, while Chairman of the State Sports Commission, Chief Tony
Oli, joined the Governor to receive the guests.
Briefing the press shortly after a closed door meeting with the
Governor, Mr. Abubakar, said the games which is expected to hold in
Oba later this year, will draw more than ten thousand guests
comprising visitors, athletes, officials, coaches and friends of the
Police.
Mr. Abubakar explained that they are taking the outcome of their
meeting with the Governor back to Abuja before coming up with the
final announcements, adding that the games is intended to identify and
develop talents in sports that had been lying idle .
He added that the Nigeria police had produced quality athletes that
represented the country in many games all over the world and will
continue to do so.
For his part, Chairman of the State Sports Commission, Chief Tony Oli,
stressed that Anambra State is poised to host them well, and
appreciated the Police for their interest in organizing the event in
Anambra, as well as the Governor, for accepting to host them.
Describing the event as remarkable, Chief Oli said that it will
go a long way to reawaken the competitive spirit of young sports
generation in the State.
High ranking Police officers including Commissioners and Deputy
Commissioners were also part of the visit.
