The Church, Government and private sector have been called upon to
adopt a school programme that will provide equal opportunity for the
children of the poor in the society.
A former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, made the call during an event organized by the Laity Council of Awka Catholic Diocese in Achina, Aguata Local Government Area.
Professor Soludo, regretted that the children of the poor are being denied the opportunity of attending mission schools after their parents had contributed money for the building of such schools.
He advocated that children in catchment areas, where a school is domiciled should benefit from special scholarships, to enable the poor children from such areas have a sense belonging.
He noted that the Catholic Church is the largest non-governmental organization with highest investments in Health and Education, saying that government and the Church should strengthen the schools handed over to the mission.
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria said that the Church, government and individuals must partner to assist the youths by organizing skills acquisition programmes.
Professor Soludo, while canvassing for strong patronage of made in Nigeria goods maintained that Anambra rice; Efi Igbo and locally bred chickens are more delicious than the foreign ones.
He urged Ndi Anambra to key into animal husbandry to boost the economy.
