It was victory over the weekend for the Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCT Council, as they defeated the Chinese side three games to one at the 2019 Table Tennis, Nigeria/China media tournament.
Ekwi Ajide of our Abuja Bureau reports that the Table Tennis Tournament, third in its series was in commoration of the independence celebration of both countries which consided on October one.
The NUJ had excelled in the Men’s singles, women’s singles and men’s doubles while the Chinese side won the mixed doubles.
Earlier in a welcome speech, the Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy and Director of China Cultural Centre in Nigeria, Mr. Li Xuda, said Table Tennis is a popular game in China and can be regarded as “Sport of a Nation In China, since table tennis can be played at train
stations, offices and rural fields, with people playing the game whenever they take a break.
He said 2019 marks the seventieth Anniversary of the founding of Peoples
Republic of China, and the forty-eighth Anniversary of the establishment of bilateral ties between China and Nigeria.
Mr. Xuda said strengthening of friendship and cooperation between the two countries are their priorities for co-hosting the table-tennis tournament with the Leadership newspaper and the NUJ.
In his speech, the Chairman of the Council reechoed the desire of a more strengthened bilateral ties which will promote better peace and unity.
He emphasised the preparedness of Journalists to contribute their quota to the economic growth and development of the country.
Winners at the end of the day went home with a mobile phone and medals.
