The Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano has challenged women to prioritize their health and take advantage of the affordable healthcare policies instituted by the Anambra State Government.


Dr Mrs. Obiano was speaking at the kick off of her 2019 Local Government Tour at Awka South Council Headquarters, Amawbia,

The 2019 Local Government Tour of Dr Mrs. Obiano is her sixth in the space of six years, making her the first Governor’s wife to have done so in the same period.

Addressing the women, Dr Mrs. Obiano said the subsidy on health insurance developed by the Anambra State Government, through the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA, has opened up huge opportunities for women and children, especially the indigent, to live healthy life  by seeking free and adequate medicare at designated hospitals of their choice.

On the mandatory Genotype Test Bill recently passed into law by the Anambra State House of Assembly, the Governor’s wife urged all parents to ensure that their children who are intending to enter into
marriage, check their genotypes as their own contribution towards eliminating the scourge of sickle cell anemia effectively in Anambra

State.

She urged women to equip themselves with the right menu for success if they must hold up an important stake at both family and societal levels.

The Principal Secretary of the Anambra  to the Governor, Sir Willy Nwokoye and the State Head of Service, Mr. Harry Uduh, who also spoke at the event, said the Governor’s wife, just like her husband, has redefined  governance through inclusiveness and selfless service.

On his part, the Majority Leader of  the Anambra State House of Assembly, and member representing Awka South Two Constituency, Pharmacist Nnamdi Okafor, said the  recognition and presentation awards to  some women by the Governor’s wife at the just-concluded 2019 Mothers’ Summit, showed a clear picture of a woman who is bent on fighting for the right cause

of womanhood.

In their separate remarks, the Commissioner for Children and Women
Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue and the Transition Committee Chairman of
Awka South, Mr. Leo Nwuba, said the tour has become  more effective avenue to reach grassroot women and to ascertain the welfare of every Anambra women irrespective of location.

Dr Mrs. Obiano gave out bags of rice, cash and school  materials  to women, children and the aged in Awka South.
