Governor Willie Obiano has inaugurated the introduction of Meningitis “A” Vaccine into the Routine Immunization in Anambra State.


He performed the ceremony at Amawbia in Awka South Local Government Area.
Inaugurating the exercise, Governor Obiano represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. John Ndibe said that his administration is committed to improving the healthcare delivery, disclosing that his government has carried out some interventions in the health sector including the establishment of the Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, building of Medical Oxygen Plant among others.


Governor Obiano who thanked donor agencies for supporting the State, assured that he will keep faith with his counterpart funding and urged nursing Mothers in the State to use the opportunity to give their children Meningitis A vaccine.


The Executive Secretary, Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Chioma Ezenyimulu, represented by the Head of Department, Disease Control and Immunization of the Agency Dr. Nnamdi Uliagbafusi said that Meningitis is one of the diseases that affect children under the age of five in Nigeria, adding that about twenty five to twenty six states in Nigeria are in the Meningitis belt noting that immunization has remained the cornerstone in preventing most infectious diseases especially in children.


The State Mobilization Officer, Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency Mrs. Uju Onwuegbuzina, said that the disease is seriously affecting children and kills within a day adding that it is common during harsh weather, and advised women to avoid areas where there is excessive sun.
