The Anambra State Police Command has denied rumours that the chairman of Eke-Awka Market, Mr. Emeka Agunmadu was released from Police custody on the orders of the state Governor.
Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP John Abang stated this yesterday when some suspected cultists, armed robbers and fake Policeman were paraded at the State Police Headquarters at Amawbia.
Correspondent, Valentine Mbadugha reports that CP Abang, who noted that the charge against Mr. Agunmadu is a bailable offence, said the matter is being investigated after which the suspect will be charged to Court.
He further appreciated the Governor for his support to law enforcement agencies in the state and urged Ndi Anambra to sustain the tempo of corporation with the security agencies to sustain the existing peace and orderliness in the state.
Some of the suspects, including the fake policeman, Mr. Hassan Abubakar and some suspected cultists, including Ikenna Obi, Nonso Chinecherem and Emeka Nwankwo, while admitting their guilt, pleaded for leniency.
Also displayed during the parade were exhibits recovered from the suspects including two pistols and live cartridges, machetes, inhaling substance suspected to be cocaine among others.
