Ndi Igbo both at home and in the diaspora have been called upon to
join hands in preserving Igbo culture and traditions.
The Traditional Ruler of Enugwu-Ukwu, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh made the call
during the Isu Evo festival of Avomimi community in Enugwu-Ukwu,
Njikoka Council Area.

reports that  the event attracted sons of Avomimi village, representatives of the eighteen villages in Enugwu-Ukwu, as well as friends from across the
state and beyond.


Isu Evo is a festival that preludes the Olili-Onwasato of Enugwu-Ukwu
community, and a means through which Ndi Avomimi village thank God for
a bountiful harvest each year and make their expectations for the next
farming season known to Him.


Breaking a kola nut during the event, the Traditional Ruler of
Enugwu-Ukwu community, Igwe Ekpeh who pointed out that no entity
exists without culture, emphasized  the need for Ndi Igbo to join
hands in promoting their culture for relevance of the tribe in Nigeria
and world at large.
He explained that the Isu Evo festival of the Avomimi village signals
Ndi Enugwu-Ukwu that it is just twelve days to the Olili-Onwasato of
the community.


On his part, the President General of the community, Chief Boni
Ozonkwuaku while speaking on the dynamism of culture, commended
Avomimi people for eliminating some part of the festival which
contradict the Christian faith.                
Also speaking , the Enugwu-Ukwu Palace Secretary, Frank Nwokiki commended the people for retaining the tradition their forefathers handed over to them, and called on upcoming  generations to follow suit.

In a remark, the Head Supreme Council of Nze na Ozo Avomimi, Ozo
Ignatius Okoye explained how to perform the Isu Evo rites to young
people of the community and friends, noting that the village is
blessed with the most fertile lands for agriculture, hence the need to
show appreciation to the gods each year.
The Secretary of the Supreme Council of Nze na Ozo Avomimi, Chief
Felix Nwosu earlier read out the history of the Isu Evo as written by
the council.
