Two people have been confirmed dead as a result of a building collapse that happened yesterday at Agba Ekwulobia in Aguata Council Area.

The two storey building belonging to Extra C Guesthouse, Ekwulobia, which was still under construction before the incident, was said to have collapsed at about 12noon yesterday.

Governor Willie Obiano yesterday  paid an emergency visit to the scene where he commiserated with the Ekwulobia Community over the loss of lives and property, assuring that the State Government will commence investigation into the causes of the incident.

He urged developers across the state to heed the standards set for structural development by the State Physical Planning Board and the Building Materials Testing Lab to avoid recurrence of such ugly incident.
Speaking, the General Manager Physical Planning Board, Mr Joe Agbaizu-Enyenwa told the ABS that the cause of the collapse was complete structural failure, saying that the building which took the builder just one month to bring to that stage, had been marked for demolition before now.

Mr Agbaizu-Enyenwa further disclosed that a directive had been given for a review of the high rise buildings, saying that all the hostels under construction in the area should be stopped forthwith, adding that they are in the process of reviewing a policy on how to strategize to prevent such occurrences.
