Idemili South Local Government Area says it will inaugurate Forest guards to monitor people defecating openly in the Local Government Area.
The Transition Committee Chairman for Idemili South Local Government Area, Chief Don Unachukwu disclosed this at Ojoto when the European Union-UNICEF delegation for Anambra Mission paid him a courtesy visit.
Correspondent, Amaka Chibuzor Okoye reports that Chief Unachukwu said the Council has been assisting WASH Unit in various ways including mobility, subvention and other necessary logistics needed to sustain the projects.
He assured of monitoring them through WASHCOM and charged traditional rulers and Presidents-General in Idemili South Local Government Area to be a watchdog in their various communities so as to maintain open defecation free status in the area.
Earlier in a speech, the European Union Programme Coordinator and Team leader, Mrs Kate Kainebi said that they have supported the Council under the reform programme in the WASH sector since 2006, urging the Local Government Chairman to support the unit to improve the living standards of the people.
The team later visited Umuoshi village Alor, where the Chairman of the community Mr Okey Okpala commended them for constructing a Solar Powered Borehole and sanitary facility at their primary school promising that they will take its full ownership to ensure its durability.
