Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA in collaboration with National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA has organized interactive session with community leaders and stakeholders in Anambra East and West Local Government Areas of the state, on ways to prepare for the predicted flooding in the area.
Speaking during the sensitization programme, the Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mr Fred Anusim, said the primary reason for the interaction was to create awareness on how to secure life and property, inview of the prediction of flooding this year.
Also speaking, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on SEMA, Mr Emeka Obinwa pointed out that dreging of River Niger will go a long way in controlling flooding in this part of the country and implored the federal government to put in place necessary measures towards dredging the River . In their reactions , the traditional ruler of Umuenwelum Anam, Anambra West Council Area, Igwe Michael Okeke and the Transition Committee Chairman for Anambra West, Mr Sylvester Okafor, commended SEMA and NEMA for their collaboration in preparing for the predicted flooding, advising the people to heed to the call of the agencies.
Participants during the programme called for completion of holding centres in the areas and appealed for more government interventions.
