Forty applications were accepted at the opening of bidding for award of contracts under the Economic Productive Infrastructures of Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Programme, Phase One, ATASP- One . The winners of the contract that will eventually emerge from the forty bidders will undertake among other projects, the execution of the contracts in the various Lots including the construction of seventeen Kilometre double coat surface dressed Rice mill, Umuerum road and E 13 road at Omor, Ayamelum local government area.
The exercise held at Adani – Omor Staple Crop Processing Zone, Awka , was witnessed by the National Programme Coordinator, Mr Alabi Ibrahim, top government officials, civil society organisations, bidders and staff of the ATASP- one . Speaking shortly after the exercise, the National Programme Coordinator, ATASP- One , Mr. Arabi Ibrahim, announced that they will sign the contracts for this biddings in October this year while the successful bidders would commence work there after.
Mr. Ibrahim, who noted that they have till middle of next year to complete the projects, described the exercise as a great progress. The chairman, Anambra state Tenders Board and Commissioner for Youth Entrepreneurship and Sports Development, Mr Afam Mbanefo described the exercise as a priority project for Governor Willie Obiano, aimed at developing the Adani-Omor and Lower Anambra Irrigation projects to capture Rice production along the axis and provide utility water for the communities.
Mr. Mbanefo, maintained that Anambra state has always been transparent in procurement process.
The Zonal Programme Coordinator of ATASP-1, Mr Romanus Egba, who promised the completion of evaluation soonest, affirmed that they do not joke with transparency.
In their separate goodwill messages, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanization, Processing and Export, Mrs Stephanie Keri-Uzor and her Enugu state counterpart, Mr. Samuel Onyiaji said the ripple effects of the projects on completion will be immeasurable as they will boost activities across all sectors of the economy and aid in the achievement of food security.
Later in a vote of thanks, a representative of one of the bidders, Mr. Philip Aniekwensi applauded the organizers of the exercise but however called for total compliance with disqualification rules to save time in future biddings.
