The World Bank-assisted Community and Social Development Project will build and equip two skills acquisition centres and a solar bore hole with overhead tank for three vulnerable groups in Anambra West Local Government Area.
The groups, Udoka Vulnerable Group Ezi-Anam, Chidera Vulnerable group Ifite-Anam and Ngozika Vulnerable Group Umuikwu-Anam are to contribute five percent each of the total cost of the project in cash or material resources.
While launching the projects at Umuoba Town Hall Ifite-Anam, the Board chairman, Anambra state Community and Social Development Agency, Igwe Roland Odegbo of Nteje, represented by one of the Board members, Prince Chris Azor, presented cheques for the first thirty percent tranche of the total cost of building and equipping of skills acquisitions centres to Udoka and Chidera vulnerable groups and first fifty percent tranche to Ngozika vulnerable group for solar bore hole with overhead tank.
Igwe Odegbo, who said the project would consolidate Governor Willie Obiano’s “Community choose your project initiatives”, urged them to be prudent in management of funds to achieve desired goals.
In his speech, the General Manager, Anambra state Community and Social Development Agency World Bank-assisted, Mr. Chudi Mojekwu, identified them as the real targeted beneficiaries of the project and advised them to open the group’s door to intending members to achieve the desired objectives.
Earlier in his welcome speech, the President General of Ifite-Anam, Mr. Joseph Obidike, assured that they will comply with the legal agreement they signed as well as provide effective security for the projects.
Receiving their cheques, the Chairperson, Ngozika Vulnerable group Umuikwu-Anam, Mrs. Rosaline Okoye, Chairman, Udoka Vulnerable Group Ezi-Anam, Chief Udekwe Okeke and the Chairperson, Chidera Vulnerable Group Ifite-Anam, Mrs. Monic Okoye promised to execute the project according to the stipulated guidelines.
