Anambra state government has restated its commitment to establishing fish production sites in all Local Government Areas across the state.


The Managing Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture Business Development Agency FABDA in Anambra State Mr. Emeka Iloghalu, made the disclosure in Awka, during a meeting with the state Fresh Fish Sellers Association, a sub group of the AVCI which is the organized Private Sector of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Industry in Anambra state.


FABDA, the Agency that regulates and controls growing Fisheries and Aquaculture Value Chain in the state has the full support of the present administration to drive strong partnership with the Aquaculture Value Chain Innovation Platform (AVCI) towards achieving a vibrant industry.
AVCI is a body of organized private sector that already has sixteen agents working with groups of stakeholders to achieve effective collaboration in the Agric sector.


According to Mr. Iloghalu, the meeting with fresh fish sellers was to point out silent issues and key points that will help to accelerate and increase business in the Fisheries and aquaculture value chain in the state.
He said that government through the Agency aims to make the state the most viable leader in Fisheries and Aquaculture in the West Africa sub-region.


In his remarks, the state President Aquaculture Value Chain Innovation Platform AVCI Mr. Emeka Christian Emeka, noted that when fully repositioned aquaculture will create avenue for more job opportunities in the state and also increase the IGR as well as food stability in terms of animal protein for the state citizenry.


For a wholesale Fresh Fish Seller in the state, Mr. Emeka Akposionu, the meeting has been of huge benefit as FABDA and AVCI are employing all necessary resources in ensuring that both the fish sellers and producers as well as other actors in the value chain maintain a robust harmonious relationship in order to meet the target of achieving the desired growth and expansion in aquaculture and fish production in the state.


Also speaking, wholesale Fresh Fish Seller Mrs. Fidelia Obeche from Ose Okwodu fresh fish market Onitsha, thanked the state government for bringing all stakeholders together to grow the fish business in the state.
