Governor Willie Obiano has inaugurated a new Board of Directors for Anambra Small Business Agency, ASBA. He performed the function at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.


The Board has the Commissioner for Finance, Mr Ifeatu Onejeme as Chairman. The inauguration followed the expiration of the four year tenure of the previous Board.


Inaugurating the Board, Governor Obiano commended the previous board for a job well done, noting that his administration’s effort in repositioning Micro Small and Medium enterprises is part of the success stories in the economy of the State and growth of the State’s Gross Domestic Product GDP.


Governor Obiano who disclosed that soon, about two point five billion Naira fund from CBN, will arrive, asked them to ensure that sixty percent of the fund should go to women, and expressed satisfaction with the funds disbursed to farmers and tradersamong others so far which he noted has multiplier effect on the State economy.


Also speaking, Chief Greg Obi who stood in for the Chairman of the Board Mr Onejeme during the inauguration stressed that the Governor’s passion for the agency has kept it afloat from the beginning of his administration and observed that the agency is growing as loans are being accessed in accordance with laid down principles.


In his remarks, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ASBA, Chief Clement Chukwuka explained that the Agency’s services is accessible to majority of Ndi Anambra, which amounts to over sixty nine percent of the population, saying that State government through the agency have been able to access over two billion Naira from CBN, out of which about eighty-seven percent of the fund have been recovered.


Other Directors of the Board include the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Greg Obi, Commissioner for Economic Planning, Budget and Development Partners, Mr Mark Okoye, Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Indegenous Artwork, Mrs Sally Mbanefo, Chief Cyril Okichie, Mr Dan Ofia, Mr Chilo Ofia Arinze and the Managing Director of ASBA, Chief Clement Chukwuka.


The Board is to collaborate with local and international financial intermediaries to provide MSMEs with access to finance, to enable them grow their businesses with affordable credit and investment.
