Anambra residents have been charged to today’s end-of-month environmental sanitation exercise to clean their surroundings.


Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Obi Nwankwo who gave the charge in an interview with Anambra Broadcasting Service also enjoined them to de-silt blocked drainages and gutters and also cut overgrown grasses around their homes, offices and places of business.


Mr. Nwankwo said that the ‘Dobe Anambra Ocha’ environmental campaign launched by the Ministry in July this year is here to stay and has helped in raising the consciousness of Ndi Anambra in keeping the environment clean.


He expressed satisfaction that people of the State are aware of what is expected of them and observed that compliance is improving across the three senatorial zones where the Ministry’s inspection teams have been active over the past weeks .


Mr. Nwankwo thanked Governor Willie Obiano for spearheading the ‘Dobe Anambra Ocha’ campaign and supporting the ministry with the resources they require to make Anambra the cleanest state in the country.
He said that the Ministry has already mobilised trucks to cart away the rubbish that will be generated from the exercise, warning that Sanitation inspectors will be deployed across the state to sanction defaulters.
