The unique culture of Enugwu-Ukwu once again came to the fore, during the Olili Onwa Asato by the traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh, as he celebrate the New Yam with a charge on the people to uphold their culture.


The palace of the traditional ruler was colourful as cabinet Chiefs, traditional rulers of other communities and dignitaries joined Igwe Ekpe in the Olili Onwa Asato, which signified the eating of New Yam by the traditional ruler of Nri, Igwe Ralph Ekpeh .


In his remark at the event, Igwe Ekpeh noted that culture is not evil or taboo and urged the people to keep their culture alive and also charged them to go into agriculture, as Enugwu-Ukwu is a blessed community.
The Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, Indigenous Art Work, Culture and Tourism, Mrs. Sally Mbanefo and her Agriculture counterpart, Mr Nnamadi Onukwuba, who graced the occasion, said yam is one of the staple food for Igbo people, which holds much significance as the king of crops , stating the need to encourage youths in all parts of the state to embrace agriculture.


A proponent of culture, Mr Ramas Asuzu stressed the need for all hands to be on deck to ensure that Igbo culture does not go into extinction, highlighting the importance of transferring such culture to future generation.


The event was climaxed, when the Igba Eze led the traditional ruler, his cabinet Chiefs and other dignitaries into his abode.


A member of the community, Mr. Johnson Nwachukwu also used the occasion to offer scholarship and distributed educational materials to students of schools within the community and implored other well meaning individuals of the community to join in the gesture.
